At this point, mention must be made of the help which the praiseworthy mining community of Schneeberg received, after all human attempts at rescue had turned out to be in vain. The following hymn, composed in honour of the Mother of God, Full of Grace, of Trens, recounts the aid, as well as other miracles, provided by the Madonna (no attempt has been made to make the verses rhyme):
6.
Now I too must tell
What MARY of Trens can do,
Schneeberg must bear witness
Of what I sing and say:
A fire broke out,
The coal depot was all burnt,
No-one was able to put it out
Because the wind was blowing too strongly.
7.
When the miners learnt of this,
They all ran to help,
Three hundred and fifty men, all together,
To put out the fire without wasting time,
All were filled with anguish and fear,
The icy water of the Black Lake
From which so many buckets were taken
Was simply not enough.
8.
Everything was in danger
Of being reduced to ashes:
The powder magazine was nearby
And everyone was afraid it would explode.
Even the fine church and the houses
Were threatened with the flames,
The miners were terrified,
Fearing that all was lost.
9.
Seeing that their efforts were in vain,
All those present fell to their knees
And raised their hands in prayer to heaven.
They turned to MARY of Trens,
Invoking her divine Child,
MARY instantly sent her help,
She put out the fire and placated the wind.’
